Policing

The number of police officers across the 43 forces of England and Wales, police strength counted in full-time-equivalent officers so part-time posts are not double-counted. It is the basic measure of policing capacity. More officers can mean greater visibility and faster response, though that also depends on deployment; fewer means the same demand falls on a smaller workforce.
