Road Traffic
The total distance travelled by motor vehicles on Great Britain's roads each year, measured in vehicle miles, in a series running back to 1949. It tracks how much the country drives. A rise reflects more economic activity and mobility but also more congestion and emissions; a fall, the reverse, whether from recession, fuel costs or working from home.
